Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your therapy practice located?

Hear for You counselling is in a private practice room with a separate entrance at my family home in Knaphill, Woking. There is free on-street parking available.

How do I know if I need counselling?

When life becomes challenging and overwhelming, when you feel you can no longer cope or move forward, it is an excellent time to reach out for help. Everybody deserves extra support – you are not alone. Counselling is a gentle and effective process where you go at your own pace and work collaboratively to bring about change in your life so that you are empowered to lead a happy, more fulfilling life.

How do online sessions work?

Online video counselling sessions take place via Zoom or WhatsApp and are a highly effective way to undergo therapy. Just find a quiet, private space where you will be undisturbed with a good Wi-Fi connection. We agree on a day and a time; then, you are sent a Zoom link to log in before the session starts.

Is an integrative humanistic approach effective?

Integrative humanistic counselling is a highly flexible and adaptable approach to therapy because I tailor our sessions to your specific issues and goals. I draw upon different modalities to guide and support you through your therapeutic journey, where you can reach your potential and empower long-lasting change.

Can someone be with me during our session?

If it's your first time undergoing counselling, it is normal to feel nervous or apprehensive. Our sessions are one-to-one for us to develop a strong and connected relationship based on trust and respect, so that we can build a relationship in a safe and confidential space where you can talk openly and freely.

How long and how often do I expect to undergo counselling?

I offer short-and long-term therapy – you can decide how many sessions you want, and we can work together for as long as it is helpful to you. We book most sessions weekly to build momentum, enabling you to make gradual and steady progress towards your goals. Each session builds on the last, so keeping sessions frequent allows you to progress quickly and transition into positive, lasting change.

Do I need a referral?

You can access counselling whenever you need extra support and do not need a referral from your GP. Please get in touch with me directly.

For anyone on an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), you will be referred to me with a pre-determined number of sessions as per your health insurance allowance.

How will I feel after my therapy sessions?

It can be helpful to find a peaceful space after your session ends. During counselling, it’s common to feel a range of emotions, so creating some quiet time afterwards gives you time to reflect

What happens during our first session?

You'll be encouraged to speak freely and openly about your concerns or difficulties during our initial session. We have an in-depth assessment about what brings you to counselling, with more detailed discussions on your background life experiences and what is affecting you in the present day.

Is counselling confidential

Everything you discuss during your sessions is confidential. There are only two exceptions to this where I am obliged to break confidentiality: if you disclose involvement in or knowledge of any criminal activities or if there is a safeguarding issue if you or any adult or child related to you could potentially be under threat of harm or abuse.
