About Me

Hello,

I am Colleen, an integrative humanistic counsellor and qualified member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), member ID: 00897458, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Europe.

From Crisis Helplines to Counseling

I qualified for a Level 4 CPCAB Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2019. I previously worked for many years for the NHS crisis helpline and as a mental health nurse and associate practitioner for a psychiatric intensive care unit. After a period of ill health, I decided to retrain as a counsellor – I wanted to help people know their worth and empower them to change. I also trained in mindfulness, which is part of my counselling approach today.

I work in a calm, subtle, embracing, and empathetic way. My mantra is that it can be your reality if you can dream it. If we have a goal, we know where we are heading, so we can work out what needs to be different to achieve change.

We might work across boundary settings, behavioural activation and patterns, or with triggers and core beliefs. I call it the 'Shift'; this is where I can see the change taking place for clients after a series of sessions, where they become animated by taking back the reins to control their destiny. By the end of the penultimate session, clients often have achieved more than the goals they initially set – it's humbling to see clients accept that they are enough and a real blessing to be with them on their journey.
